In men, Chlamydia can cause sexually-acquired reactive arthritis (SARA).  SARA could end a sports career before its hardly begun.  Chlamydia in men can also cause sterility, as can Gonorrhoea, and condoms have not been proven to be effective against that STD either.

Researcher Paul Oyudo found cases of ‘SARA’ amongst top-class footballers: http://newswww.bbc.net.uk/1/low/health/411811.stm  Depressingly, the only advice in the BBC article about it, echoed by the Family Planning Association, is “Wear a condom.”

Sad they don’t actually prevent sexually-transmitted diseases like the Chlamydia which causes SARA in the first place.  Funnily enough, the Family Planning Association makes money by selling contraceptives to fund its salaries and offices.
